CMALT Portfolio

Contextual Statement

A little bit about me

I have created this website so I can demonstrate the evidence required to gain CMALT accreditation. This will be via a “portfolio of effective practice in four core areas” as well as in one area of specialist work.

Between 2007 and 2013 I worked for the Further Education College, Coleg Gwent as a Web Developer. I worked alongside the eLearning Manager to provide technical support for staff and students as well as develop the Moodle installation (software and hardware).

I joined Oxford Brookes University (Brookes) in January 2014 as a Moodle Developer in the Oxford Centre for Staff and Learning Development (OCSLD) department. My role was to create a number of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC’s) and to develop and enhance a ‘standalone’ Moodle site using my previous experience.

In May 2015 my post changed to a Digital Media eLearning Developer (DMeLD). My role now also includes the development of eLearning materials and online course design in conjunction with subject matter experts.

So why do I want CMALT status?

Achieving CMALT has been a long term goal of mine for many years. It is an internationally recognised certification and is highly regarded in the learning technology sector.

As part of my continuing professional development, I believe that it is important for me to complete the CMALT accreditation process.

I hope that a CMALT certification, alongside my technical knowledge, will show my colleagues and peers that I have experience in the field of technology enhanced learning.

Although I have over a decade of experience in the sector, I believe CMALT would provide the formal recognition I am looking for as a learning technologist.

The process of creating this portfolio also provides a good opportunity to really self-reflect upon my practices and will offer different perspectives that will make me aware of future areas of development.
